The Stir-fry
Although we have literally hundreds of easy and quick to make recipes in our Recipe Archives, when my husband and I are looking for a yummy meal with minimal preparation time, we gravitate towards stir-frys. Quick, easy and always bursting with flavor, stir-frys also offer another great feature; they can be made with whatever you have on hand. Left-over meats, poultry or bits and pieces of vegetables can be combined to create new and different recipes at the drop of a hat.
Great stir-frys are made with three general components:
1. Main ingredients: Main ingredients can be anything including meat, poultry , fish, shellfish, pasta and almost any vegetable
2. Seasonings: Aromatic ingredients, like garlic or ginger
3. Sauce: Wet ingredients that will flavor the dish such as gf soy sauce, fish sauce, wine, sesame oil, stocks and usually a touch of cornstarch mixed with water to thicken
Stir-frys take only minutes to cook, so the time involved is in the prep. Before you begin a stir-fry make sure all your ingredients are cut and measured so when the wok or skillet is hot, you can simply add the ingredients and stir.
