Traditionally,
on Valentines Day we shower the ones we love with
special gifts like chocolates and flowers. Now, Ill
be the first to admit that I love to receive a beautiful bouquet
of roses and Ill certainly never refuse a box of good
chocolate. But the best Valentines Day I can remember
started off with an amazing breakfast in bed, followed by
a day full of wonderful surprises.
It
all started off, many years ago, when my boyfriend (at the
time hes now my husband and yes, this
day could have had something to do with that!), served me
an amazing breakfast in bed. I remember it perfectly - champagne
& orange juice, a perfect omelet and a cup of sweet and
perfect strawberries. After a leisurely breakfast, we kissed
goodbye. He went off to work and I prepared to spend a relaxing
day off. He called and asked me to meet him for coffee at
the local coffee shop on his break. So around 10am I headed
off to the coffee shop expecting to have a nice latte with
my college sweetheart. When I arrived he wasnt there.
The lady behind the counter asked my name and I told her.
She said that my boyfriend was at the hospital he was
ok but he needed me to go to a particular doctors
office to pick him up
oh, and by the way, my latte was
paid for. Concerned and very confused, I headed off to the
hospital and finally located the office he had instructed
me to go to. It happened to be a sports masseuse. I walked
in, stated my name, and they all gave me a sly, "isnt
that so cute smile". At this point, I was still completely
clueless about why I was there. The lovely people behind the
counter directed me back to a room and told me that I was
given an hour-long massage by my boyfriend. Wow! After my
relaxing massage, the masseuse handed me a card.
The card stated (in poetry) that my latte was paid for and
that I was supposed to go to a certain address to pick up
a surprise. Off I went in my puzzled state, wondering why
he had sent me off on this wild goose chase (but now, secretly
enjoying it!). I arrived at the address and found myself looking
at a local salon. I walked in and stated my name. They all
immediately took me aside and told me that I was scheduled
for a haircut, manicure, and facial. Wow! Thrilled, I sat
down and prepared to be pampered. After my haircut, manicure
and facial
and of course the massage, I was convinced
that that had to be it! Before I left the salon, a woman handed
me yet, another card written in my boyfriends best poetic
words. It said that I was to put on my sexiest dress and meet
my "secret admirer" at a particular restaurant in
town. He would be the one with the bouquet of red roses. I
arrived at the restaurant and met my amazing boyfriend for
a memorable evening. Ill leave the rest to your imagination.
But what this story proves is that chivalry is not dead (we
have now been married for 11 years), and that breakfast in
bed is a great way to start the day off!
If your creative culinary juices are having
a little trouble this Valentines Day, weve come
up with 3 wonderful breakfasts that will "Wow" your
Valentine
in bed.
Suggestion: Accompany your breakfast
in bed with a single rose and a piece of fine chocolate.
