Grilling
Nothing
beats the good ol grill for a delicious summer meal. During
the summer, we spend many nights on our deck enjoying the wonderful
aroma of meats, vegetables and even fruits grilling to perfection.
Grilled foods provides a great, usually low-fat alternative to
cooking indoors over a hot stove.
Grilling
is an excellent way to prepare smaller cuts of meat. Usually it
involves cooking the meat over high, direct heat. It is perfect
for chicken pieces, pork chops, steaks, hamburgers & of course
hot dogs. Here are some helpful tips for your next grilling extravaganza:
- Always
remember to lightly oil a clean grill rack before grilling to
prevent your food from sticking.
- If
you are using a gas grill, preheat the grill before adding your
meat or vegetables.
- For
chicken, to assure your chicken is done and not charred, brown
over high heat for about 6 minutes per side, then turn off one
side of the grill and let the chicken continue to cook away
from the direct flame, periodically turning to assure even doneness.
- Always
cook marinates if planning on using them as a sauce after the
meat has been cooked.
- If
grilling fruits, make sure you start with a clean grill rack
so that you dont have any cross contamination from meats.
