vacation homeWhoever said, "There's no place like home..."?

Anyone with celiac disease or anyone who has a family member with celiac disease, especially a child, knows that a vacation is very difficult to enjoy when you have to worry about special dietary needs and dietary restraints.

I have found that if you are planning a trip to the Orlando area you can truly have a vacation, even with special dietary needs and restrictions.

My daughter Meghan is 5 yrs old, and was diagnosed with Celiac Disease 2 years ago (June 2005). Prior to her diagnosis, we had been traveling to the Orlando Area often. When the time came to book our next trip after her diagnosis I was really worried about being away from the comfort of my own kitchen and fully stocked gluten free pantry. Avoiding gluten at home is one thing; staying gluten free while away from home is another.

I was really worried about traveling; Just six months on the diet and just beginning to get the hang of things. We were still not even going out to dinner at this time. Learning to read ingredients, finding good gluten free products that my daughter enjoyed eating, cross-contamination issues, so much we were still learning and then the thought of being away from our home was an extremely scary thought.

I had heard many good things about Disney World accommodating the Gluten free diet. After making a few calls and asking a lot of questions, I knew that Meghan would be very well taken care of in Disney World.

When it came time to decide what type of accommodations we needed, I new that I could not be without some type of kitchen. Even though she was going to be well taken care of while visiting the Parks, I wanted to be able to bring her favorite foods and have them available to her if she wanted them.  The thought of not being able to accommodate her myself was too much to bare.

I first looked into rooms on Disney property. Disney offers rooms that you can rent a small refrigerator & microwave; you can also get rooms with apartment size kitchens and full kitchens as well. Well, not to my surprise, all of these rooms were very costly. We needed to start looking off property, which was something we had never done before.

I decided to do some research into vacation homes. I didn’t know the first thing about them and I always assumed they would be more costly than a hotel room, but I couldn’t have been more wrong.

I came across a company called “All Star Vacation Homes”.

Their company motto was   Whoever said, "There's no place like home..."?

I knew right then that this was exactly what our family needed.

Their vacation homes provide much more space and amenities at a better value then staying in a hotel. Each home is fully equipped to provide you with everything you need to make a home away from home. Gourmet kitchens, linens, towels, multiple master bedrooms & custom furnishings are just a few highlights that make each property a step above the standard hotel rooms.

All Star Vacation Homes offers the choice of more than 100 properties with amenities such as private pools/spas, in-home game rooms, home theatres, upscale custom furnishings and more. Additionally each home that they manage is within 4 miles of Walt Disney World and just minutes from shopping, fine & casual dining, golf and major roads in the Central Florida area.

We have traveled now four times in the last two years since Meghan was diagnosed with celiac disease. All 4 times we have stayed with All Star Vacation Homes and we couldn’t be happier. It is everything we could need and so much more. The homes and communities offer something for everyone in the family. It is no longer just about having a kitchen. It is about having the best vacation our family can possibly have when we finely can get away and having very little worries when it comes to accommodating our daughter’s special dietary needs.

During our last trip in May of this year we decided to purchase this wonderful vacation home through “All Star Vacation Home Realty”. It is located in Windsor Hills Resort Community just outside of Disney World.  As an owner, we will be able to customize this home to meet our special needs, as well as the guests staying in our home. We are hoping families with special dietary needs will enjoy this home as much as we will.
