Glutenfreeda.com: Brownies, Bars and Everything Square!

Everybody loves hamburgers and for the gluten-intolerant, this love of the America’s most popular sandwich, is often elevated to an obsession. I know it is with me. Periodically, I get asked the question, “If you could eat anything for just one meal, what would it be?” Even though, at Glutenfreeda.com, we cook in a gourmet style and are constantly testing new recipes, my answer is always the same: a hamburger with a toasted sesame seed bun, french fries and a beer. The beer and the french fries are no longer a problem with Anheuser Busch’s Redbridge and a handful of micro gluten-free beers on the market and fries are easier as many restaurants now use dedicated fryers for their french fries; but although there are gluten-free hamburger buns on the market, in my humble opinion, none compare to the wheat variety. Having said that, don’t despair! We have been making the best burgers on the planet for a decade without the bun! I have served many of these burger dishes to guests who can eat gluten and receive rave reviews every time. In fact, after enjoying one of our bun-less burgers my guests usually comment that not only did they not miss the bun but they preferred it without and as an added plus, they avoided the carbohydrates.

The secret to a great burger is the sauce and the additional ingredients that compliment the burger itself. When creating your own recipes, try using interesting ingredients that complement each other in other recipes you enjoy. Experiment with different flavored aiolis. An aioli is simply mayonnaise blended with garlic, and other flavor enhancements of your choice like basil, cilantro, jalapeno peppers, roasted red peppers, etc. Instead of plain mayonnaise, an aioli will add the ‘Wow’ factor to your burger.

Does it have to be ground beef? Absolutely not! In our 10 Best Burger list, we’ve included a vegetarian burger, ‘Grilled Portabella Burgers’, that is superb and will make a believer out of even the most staunch meat eater; a chicken burger with our ‘Caramelized Chicken Burgers on Foccacia’ is ‘to die’ for and can be served without the foccacia without losing any of its pizzazz. For those that like turkey, a must try is our, ‘Turkey Pesto Burgers, the bold flavors of fresh basil and garlic complement the turkey perfectly. How about a salmon burger? We have a terrific recipe, ‘Pan Fried Salmon Burgers with Avocado Aioli’, incredibly delicious and sophisticated enough to serve for an elegant summer get together. But don’t think we’ve got anything against traditional ground beef. All of our beef burgers are my favorites! After you taste them, I’m sure you’ll have a tough time choosing your favorite as well.
