Happy
Fathers Day to all those Dads out there! To celebrate
this Fathers Day, we though wed focus on foods
men love, or man-food, as we call it.
Just what exactly is man-food? Man-food
is food that is full of flavor, sometimes spicy, whos
counting calories, dont spare the fat, I love you Dr.
Atkins, super-sized servings, I can eat a roast all by myself,
hearty, honest, real
well, you know, man-food. Meat and
potatoes? Sure, and for those Dads who are a little
more culinarily exposed, hearty risottos, anything grilled
and definitely anything with a sauce or better yet, gravy.
To make this Fathers Day extra special,
weve put together an entire days worth of man-food for
that special man around your house. And if you are the man
around your house, casually slip these ideas to someone who
thinks youre special and look needy.
Lets start things off with a He-man
breakfast. No self-respecting he-man breakfast would be complete
without a full selection of breakfast meats. May we suggest
bacon, homemade sausage, fried steak or pork medallions.
After a meal like that, your special man
will of course be good for nothing for a few hours which is
probably exactly what he had planned for this day anyway.
As he saunters off to claim his spot on the couch, you will
be free to do your own thing or begin to prepare the rest
of the days surprises beginning with lunch.
We
have one word for Dad for lunch, pizza.
Yes, a delicious pepperoni or sausage packed gluten-free pizza.
You will be amazed at how authentic our new pizza recipe is
and how easy to make! Make sure you make enough for everyone.
Visit this months online cooking class on Perfect
Pizza for step by step instructions.
Snack time: As Dad gets up from the couch
to change from his pajamas into his sweats, he will probably
be a little peckish and ready for a snack. As he settles into
the days schedule of sports activities, on ESPN that is, hell
be looking for something to munch on and quench his thirst.
May we suggest Corn
Chips and Mexican Chili Bean Dip, Quesadillas
or Nachos.
These are all appropriate guy snacks. Be sure to have his
favorite soft drinks on hand and to make him really feel special,
serve them in a beer mug.
After
about three or four hours of sports TV, Dad should be sound
asleep in what will look like a coma but sound like a locomotive
with a carburetor problem. These are signs that everything
is going very well.
This is your opportunity to prepare dessert.
Both the German
Chocolate Cake and Ice
Cream Pie can be made in advance. For the German
Chocolate Cake bake the cakes, make the topping and set aside
until ready to assemble. The Ice Cream Cake is best if made
the day before.
And now for the grand finale, a Fathers
Day dinner fit for a king or perhaps a Viking. To start things
off we suggest an appetizer made of primarily meat, poultry
or fish. Try Spicy
Chicken Wings, BBQ
Pork or if you think he might like something a little
more refined, try Mini
Beef Fillets with Horseradish Crème Fraiche, but
dont call it that, call it Steak on Toast.
The following are a few menu ideas that
are sure to knock Dads socks off, which as you know,
can be a double edged sword.
Youll notice that none of these menu
choices includes salad. Salads are for sissies and everyone
knows that real men really dont really like salads,
they just eat them to humor the women who make them, unless
of course, you add a lot of meat, cheese (and we mean real
cheese, not something that comes from a goat), nuts and fruit
or basically anything that will bury the greens.
The perfect ending to a perfect day is dessert.
Our top pick is German
Chocolate Cake, followed closely by Ice
Cream Pie. Either of these desserts is guaranteed to bring
a tear to Dads eye.
This Fathers Day, feed Dad like a
king and in return, you will be elevated to the pedestal that
you deserve. Remember, behind every happy man is a woman who
can cook a mean meatloaf.
Happy Fathers Day!
