Father’s Day is just around the corner. In our house, it’s traditional for my family to grill ‘something’ if not everything for dinner (since that’s my husband’s favorite food). Although my husband (and perhaps the dad in your family as well) is perfectly satisfied with a juicy grilled steak, sometimes he enjoys taking the grill and condiments a step further with adding salsas or relishes over the top. This is a great way to take a basic grilled fish or meat (even just seasoned with salt and freshly ground pepper) and transforming it into a fresh tasting, delicious gourmet dish.
Generally speaking preparing a salsa or relish is quite simple. My salsas usually consist of the following basic ingredients:
- Onions, finely chopped
- Garlic, finely chopped
- Cilantro, finely chopped
- Jalapeno pepper, minced
- Tomatoes, chopped
- Salt & pepper
From there you can get creative and add other interesting ingredients like fruits or veggies or add balsamic vinegar or honey for different levels of sweetness or acid. Really the possibilities are endless.
