Natural Picnic Bug Busters

How many times have you sat outside and tried to enjoy a delicious barbecue or picnic and been bombarded by flies, bees, mesquitos and other pests? Or have you tried to outsmart those pests with overwhelming citronella candles — often so strong they make it difficult to enjoy your meal? Here are a few natural tips that may make your next picnic or barbecue a little more enjoyable. To keep those nasty flies away from your table, try placing lemon halves studded with cloves around your table. For bees, place a jar of jam mixed with water near your eating area but not directly front and center. Cover with a cotton napkin and secure with twine or a light rope. Cut an "x" in the center. This will entice the bees into the jar, but will not let them out. Also, you may want to try placing a nice planter of basil as not only a natural insect repellent, but also a beautiful, nice smelling decorative addition to your table.
