Thanksgiving
Sweets
Part
of the Thanksgiving tradition includes a delicious variety of
sweets. Pies, cakes, tarts, and a variety of sweet breads are
just a few of the usual desserts offered at the Thanksgiving feast.
Living gluten-free does not mean that you will need to forgo these
delicious tummy tempters. If you are not the host this year, offer
to bring a dessert nobody will guess that your delicious
treat is gluten-free. In fact, dont be surprised if you
get requests for your recipe.
Here
are some delicious desserts for all to enjoy this holiday season:
Pies
& Tarts:
Most
people on a gluten-free diet worry about crusts for their pies
and tarts. We have found a great product by The Gluten-Free Pantry
"Perfect Pie Crust". This mix produces a perfect,
flaky, buttery crust. You and your guests will not know the difference.
One helpful hint roll out the dough between two sheets
of parchment paper, lightly dusted with gf flour.
Cakes:
If
you would like to convert a favorite cake recipe follow these
helpful modification tips:
- Add
an extra egg
- Add
up to _ cup canola oil to the batter
- Increase
the baking powder by _ teaspoon
- Add
1 cup of gf yogurt, crème fraîche, sour cream or
buttermilk to the batter
If
you follow these guidelines your cake will be moist and flavorful
not any different than a gluten-filled cake.
