This year the chefs at Glutenfreeda.com
had a chili cook off to determine which chili rates #1
for 2005. All of the chilis were gluten-free, of
course, and each had a unique flavor making it very difficult
to decide which was going to be crowned "Best
GF Chili of 2005". |

Let us introduce the contenders:

|
Chili
Con Carne
|
A hearty chili packed with kidney beans, hot Italian
sausage, ground chuck & peppers - topped off with
a little hot sauce. A well-balanced chili. Probably
not hot enough for a true Texan!

|
Chicken
& Chorizo Chili
|
A great chili, but you have to be a fan of chorizo
sausage - offering a distinct, different flavor than
most sausages. Hot and spicy with a slight vinegar "tang".

Chili
Verde
|
For many years this used to be an all time favorite.
Very spicy - consisting of roasted poblano's, cubanelle's
and habenero's. Instead of tomatoes we used tomatillos
to provide a flavorful base for this great "green" chili.
Top the chili off with tender, cubed pork shoulder and
black beans and you have a chili that packs a punch
yet sooths the soul!

Hurricane
Chili
|
Developed by one of the chef's during a hurricane several
years ago - this chili is more in line with what some
would refer to as "traditional American" chili. Highlights
of this chili include chopped bacon, chipotle powder,
and a little cinnamon for a nice aromatic touch.

Smoky
Pork & Red Bean Chili
|
A great red bean chili, spiced up with 4 ancho chilis
and 2 chipotle chilis (giving it the wonderful "smoky"
flavor and just the right amount of heat). We loved
this chili because it combines the heat of the peppers
with the sweetness of corn. Serve this chili over a
bed of white rice and top off with a dollop of sour
cream for an amazing one dish meal.

|
Turkey
Chili
|
A surprisingly great chili. Even given that it was
made from turkey, this chili is incredibly well-balanced
and delicious. Combining the flavors of leeks, garlic,
bell peppers and celery with black beans, corn and turkey
make this a great alternative for those who only eat
poultry! Not too spicy for those who cant take
the heat!

|
As you can see the judges had a tough time
deciding which chili to crown the winner. After much deliberation
the judges are proud to announce
Drum roll please
.
And the winner is
"Smoky
Pork & Red Bean Chili"!
This chili was made for true chili lovers.
Adding the heat of a combination of peppers, red beans and
the sweetness of corn we all agreed that this chili
deserves the crown for the "Best Chili of 2005".
