Each
year my family loads up a large bowl of candy and awaits the
anxious knock of giggling trick-or-treaters. More often than
not, unfortunately for me, our candy bowl is never completely
emptied despite my conscious efforts to load up the
ghosts, Batmans, dragons and the 50 or so
princesss with 3 or 4 handfuls of candy (knowing full
and well that their mothers are going to curse me later).
The night usually ends with our children crashing in mid-sentence
from exhaustion and complete burn-out from their sugar high
and my husband and I sitting on the couch with a glass
of wine and a snickers bar welcoming the peace and quiet.
All in all, usually Halloween has been a very fun experience
for us.
This year my family and I have recently
moved to a new area
so Halloween should be a new and exciting adventure for us
all (or at least we hope!). Our new town is much smaller than
where we used to live and we are currently in a new development
not yet occupied by many families. So instead of loading
up our candy bowl with copious amounts of candy for just a
few trick-or-treaters, this year we thought wed have
a small gathering of neighborhood kids (since its a
new development we are all new right?) complete
with pumpkin carving and plenty of Halloween treats the whole
neighborhood can enjoy (gluten intolerant or not!). With a
little colored icing and creativity you can turn these delicious
treats into spookish Halloween delights.
If you are planning on hosting a childrens
Halloween party this year consider these yummy treats for
your Superman or Cinderella:
Maple
Pecan Popcorn
Banana
Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting
Peanut
Butter Cupcakes
Pumpkin
Chocolate Bars
Caramel
