We put a lot of thought into what product to review this month. Historically our product test review section has always been devoted to products other than our own. In fact, I don’t think that we’ve reviewed any of our products in this section for fear of coming across as biased. After all the intent of our Product Test Review section is to give our readers a second hand opinion about various gluten-free products on the market. And although we have many other products lined up to be reviewed, we couldn’t dismiss the product that kept coming to mind simply because it is a great product particularly for the holidays – Glutenfreeda Sugar Kookies.
Since our regular format does not lend itself to reviewing our own product, we thought we would just highlight these great cookies and give you some great ideas for the holidays.
Glutenfreeda Real Cookies are made from all natural, real ingredients – which is why they taste so good! Each container contains about 14 frozen cookie dough balls. There is no need to defrost the container before you bake – simply take out as many cookie dough balls as you want and place them directly from the freezer onto the baking sheet. Bake for about 18 minutes and voila – you have perfect, authentic tasting sugar cookies. It’s that easy.
What makes these cookies so perfect for the holidays is that they are so simple to make and because they taste exactly like a real sugar cookie they can be decorated and shared with your family, friends and/or even your child’s school parties. Note: Glutenfreeda Sugar Kookies do not come with frosting – you will need to prepare your own frosting if you want to decorate them. Below you will find two icing recipes:
- 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2-3 drops of food coloring
In a large bowl, mix the confectioner’s sugar, milk and vanilla extract with a whisk until smooth. At this point you can divide the icing up into separate bowls and make different colors. Let the icing completely harden before serving cookies.
Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 8 oz. cream cheese
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2-1/2 cups powdered sugar
Place (cold) cream cheese, vanilla and powdered sugar in a food processor. Pulse until smooth. Add food coloring if desired. Refrigerate for about 30 minutes prior to frosting cookies.
Making holiday shaped cookies with Real Cookies:
If you want to make little Christmas trees or reindeer shaped cookies (or some other fun holiday shape), simply let the dough thaw and then roll it out on a lightly floured surface, then cut into your favorite holiday shape. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until pale golden.
And just so you don’t think we are boasting shamelessly about our own product, below is a testimonial from The Examiner.com, Atlanta by Tiffany Jakubowski.
"Glutenfreeda's Real Sugar Kookies are very easy to make, and taste very good. The dough comes pre-mixed and portioned in small dough balls. The frozen dough is in a tub-like container and found in the freezer section. Simply place the dough balls on the cookie sheet and bake as directed.
The cookies have a great texture and flavor. They are even better topped with icing! This is a perfect option for last minute school cookies or a quick cookie craving."
