This product is shipped frozen (packed in dry ice), so once you receive it, be sure to promptly pop it in the freezer. Once it’s there it should last for quire some time. The use by date on our sample was over 3 months from the date we received the product.

Since this is a relatively new product, these crab cakes are not yet readily available in retail stores nationwide. However, you can purchase them by calling The Crab Ladies at (301) 682-8080. They are a little pricey, at over $70 (without shipping) for 6 crab cakes (plus shipping) – but considering the amount of quality crab they use we can see why the cost is what it is.

We really enjoyed these crab cakes and liken this product to a premium product like Omaha Steaks. Great for entertaining or just an elegant easy dish that you can prepare with very little effort. |

Shellfish (Crab Meat), Mayonnaise (Expeller Pressed Canola Oil, Whole Eggs, Grain Vinegar, Water, Egg Yolk, Honey, Sea Salt, Natural Spices, Lemon Juice [Gluten-Free, Wheat Free]), Rice Flour (Sweet Rice Flour, Egg, Honey, Tapioca Flour, Xanthan Gum, Canola Oil, Yeast), Whole Eggs, Seasonings (including Celery Salt [Salt, Celery Seed], Mustard, Red Pepper, Black Pepper, Bay [Laurel] Leaves, Cloves, Allspice [Pimento], Ginger, Mace, Cardamom, Cinnamon, Paprika), Tic Gums.

The Crab Ladies also manufacture several other products that do contain gluten. However, when our samples arrived for this product review, included in our package was a letter from an independent testing laboratory that states that their Gluten Free Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes have been tested for gluten and the results are below the level of detection.
These hand-made crab cakes come 6 to a box – each crab cake weighing 4 ounces. They are really nice size crab cakes…not too big, not too small. They are extremely easy to prepare. Simply place the frozen crab cake on a baking sheet, bake for 40 minutes then throw under the broiler briefly to crisp up the top (optional – but it’s the way we preferred them). These crab cakes were great – very fresh taste with nice big lumps of crab all throughout the cake. These would be an excellent thing to have on hand for impromptu guests for an elegant appetizer or even main dish. |
