1-1/4 cups basmati rice 2 Tablespoons Ghee* or vegetable oil 1 onion, chopped 1-1/4 cups red lentils 2 teaspoons Garam Masala** 1-1/2 teaspoons salt 3-1/2 cups water 2 Tablespoons chopped cilantro
Directions
Melt the ghee or heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. When hot, add onion and saute until soft. Stir in rice, lentils, garam masala and salt. Blend and cook for about 2 minutes. Add water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to lowest settiing, cover and cook for 20 minutes. Let sit off heat for 5 minutes. Adjust seasonings if necessary and serve sprinkled with cilantro.
