Italian Pork Sirloin Steaks

Ingredients

4 pork sirloin steaks
2 teaspoons dried basil
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 Tablespoon olive oil
1 Tablespoon unsalted butter
1/4 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
Directions
In a small bowl combine the basil, oregano and garlic powder. Season both sides of the pork with the herb mixture, salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Preheat the oven to 300°F. Heat the olive oil and butter in an oven-safe large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the pork to the skillet and brown on both sides. Transfer the skillet to the oven and let cook for an additional 5-10 minutes or until done. Spoon accumulated juices over the pork and garnish with parmesan cheese.

The tastiness of this dish is good but had I been judging on that factor alone, I probably would have given it just 3 stars. The thing that pushed this one into the 4 star (keeper) category for me was the ease and speed of preparing this recipe. As quick as it is, it’s a perfect choice for one of those busy weeknights when you’re late getting home from work, the kids need shuttled to soccer practice and you’re in a rush to get to the PTA meeting. The fact that this recipe is one of those rare one-dish entrees makes clean-up a snap and is an added plus for busy Moms.
