1 cup gf French bread cubes 2-3 large garlic cloves, bruised 2-4 tbsp olive oil 2 tbsp butter
Directions
Saute garlic cloves gently in olive oil until golden. Remove garlic and add butter to oil. When butter is melted, saute bread cubes on all sides tossing until golden and crisp. Drain on paper towels. They should be used immediately.
For oven baked croutons: Use above recipe but leave the bread slices whole. Generously coat both sides of bread with a pastry brush dipped in hot garlic oil- butter. Cut slices into cubes and distribute them on a baking sheet. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees until golden and crisp, about 10-15 minutes. Watch them carefully as they can burn quickly.
Tips
Tip: Save left over bread, cut into cubes in freezer, in air tight containers. You will always have bread available for croutons, or bread crumbs.
