What About Kebabs?

A delicious and fun way to vary your outdoor grilling is with kebabs. Kebabs are almost limitless in the combinations of meats, fish and vegetables and even fruits you can prepare. Truly a no mess meal, serving kebabs will eliminate almost all your pots and pans since the entire meal can be skewered and grilled.

To make great kebabs, follow these simple tips:

  1. Kebabs can be made with metal or wooden skewers. Both types of skewers are available in a variety of lengths and widths. Choose the length that suits the type of food you will be skewering and that will comfortably fit your grill.
  2. If you are using wooden skewers, be sure to soak them in water at least 30 minutes before using. This will prevent them from catching on fire on the grill.
  3. Meats and vegetables take different amounts of time to cook, so to cook them evenly, try skewering the meat and the vegetables on separate skewers. This way, you can start grilling the meat first, and then grill the vegetables for a shorter period of time.
  4. If you want to grill meat and vegetables on the same skewer, make sure you select firm vegetables.
  5. Make sure you cut meat in uniform bite-size pieces. This will make cooking more even and make your kebabs easier to eat.
  6. Meat kebabs should be marinated, to give the morsels of meat a special flavor all the way through. Once on the grill, kebabs can be basted with your favorite sauce.
  7. Always remember to oil the grill before using.
  8. Kebabs should be grilled on hot, direct heat for a short period of time.
